The Chronicles of Ginnyman

Over the weekend, I stayed in Shiga. This meant that since I wasn’t escaping with my body, I had to escape WITH MY MIND!! With the help of amazon.co.jp, I leaped into literature and spent my Saturday and Sunday with “Jumper” by Steven Gould. On Saturday night, I was up late reading when I realized I had forgotten to brush my teeth. After navigating through my pitch black apartment to the bathroom I was struck with memories of my house in Viriginia. I haven’t really known any other place I’ve lived well enough(nor have they been big enough) to navigate decent distances quickly in the dark, but here I was, doing it in Japan. And that really bugged me.

Up until a month before JET, I always had my house in Virginia to return to. My first year at Rutgers I lived in Davidson C, second year was in Thomas, then I enjoyed a perfect year at Ritsumeikan International House II. My fourth year at Rutgers saw me change residence 3 times before graduation. Amazing. I’ve been living in my apartment in Santou for a year and eight months. Holy crap. That’s the longest I’ve lived somewhere outside of my house in Virginia.

So it seems I’m used to living in Santou.

Despite the fact I hate it.

Holy crap, snow.

Since mid-February it’s been snowing with a vengeance quite regularly. These are some pictures of Santou being punished(justly) by the mighty demons of winter.

Outside of Oak Field Junior High. The groundskeeper did her best to defend the parking lot, but there’s not a lot one woman can do against the fury of nature.

No matter the season, it cracks me up that they messed up this sign when they have 6+ native English speakers on payroll.

I went out later that day to a wedding party. I had to walk because my car was still stuck. The storm had resumed!!

Seemingly, Ginnyman can’t win.

On top of my recent lack of luck in love, I was just informed today that the principal of Big East had called up Oak Field to demand that I return there three days a week. This will be effective starting next week.

Some people are going to get a firm talking to at Big East on Friday.

Even if I can’t win this, I’m not going to lose quietly.

Haw! Take that, Gundam!

I got to the Big East Center for Substandard Intermediate Education today to find a note with my schedule on it. It read:

1st Period - 1C text book
2nd Period - Kendo
4th Period - Kendo
5th Period - Kendo

Oh my! What a nice surprise! I knew that the 3rd year students were doing kendo today, and that I was invited to come when I was free, but never did I expect my schedule to be cleared out to let me help out. After 1st period, I popped back to my apartment to change into my uniform and get my armor and bidness before rushing back to school. I then enjoyed the rest of the day helping out with the gym classes in a largely benign role. I still enjoyed it more than reading from a damned textbook though.

Frequent readers may remember mention of a math teacher I call “Gundam”. He also does kendo and was also helping out with today’s classes. In each of the three classes I helped with today, there were several students who pointed out to Gundam that I looked quite a bit cooler than he did. This seemed to annoy Gundam. I think he likes me even less now. Haw. Suck it Gundam, you’re a dork and that’s why I call you Gundam.

The best part of today was rocking a skirt and hoodie all day. Some kids said I should even teach class like that. I laughed.

I don’t teach class here, sillies.
